Muerte

Muerte was inspired by my love of Art Nouveau, dark surrealism, and Dia de los Muertos. Designing this print was a lot of fun, as was working out the details as I carved. Thankfully, I was reminded by a friend that the letters would have to be carved backwards, so that they would print correctly! Sometimes printmaking can surprise you like that when you forget that the images that print are actually a mirror of what you've carved, as you can see in the linocut block vs print picture I've included!

As usual, this print started as a sketch on paper, which I then transferred to the linoleum to carve. Like all of my prints, it is inked and printed by hand on lightweight printmaking paper.
